GRYC membership sponsors will be asked to sign the following declaration:
“I hereby recommend this applicant (and their family) for membership at the Gatineau River Yacht Club and can attest to their understanding of the volunteer requirements of all members. I believe this applicant (and their family) will make a valuable contribution to the spirit of the Club and its activities.”

Responsibilities of Sponsors

As a sponsor, you agree to:

Explain to applicants how the Club operates, including volunteer requirements and other responsibilities of membership.

Attest that the applicant, as an individual or a family, has a sincere interest in sailing. This can includes:

  • Previous interest in sailing or an interest in learning to sail at the GRYC.
  • Having children enrolled in the Youth Program (summer sailing camps).
  • A demonstrated interested in participating in the GRYC Sailing program, including races, regattas, and casual events, as a sailor, crew, race official, crash boat operator, or other supporting role.

Assist the applicant in obtaining a replacement sponsor if your own membership lapses.

Once the applicant becomes a member, the sponsor is responsible for introducing the new member to the Club and encouraging their participation. This can include, taking them on a tour of the island, inviting them to participate in sailing or social events, assisting them in finding opportunities to volunteer, and introducing them to other members, board members, volunteer coordinators and staff.

If you do not think you can commit to the responsibilities of being a sponsor, we recommend that you decline. You also may wish to help the applicant find an alternate sponsor.
